International Womens Day: Henna
We celebrated international Women's day by doing free henna for the communities we work with & combining this with Ramadan Celebrations. It was amazing to be able to offer henna for people who access our services & local charities & support groups.
I came to doing henna in this way through my own journey with counselling, seeking support & help at a time I was struggling with my own physical and mental health. I was receiving guidance & support & upon hearing I did henna as a hobby, I was invited to the upcoming women's day celebrations to do henna for other women accessing the services <3
That day changed my pathway forever.
I was welcomed into a community that I now regularly work with, a community that inspired my to set up flowstate! It was my first time doing henna for people beyond myself & my friends, it gave me confidence & it helped me to realise the value of the henna experience & the range of what I already had to offer other women that could help support their mental health journey.
This was a few years ago now, & I now deliver henna, creative workshops, yoga & menstrual guidance all over the city to many different communities. Each year I return for international women's day to offer free henna to the women who come to celebrate with us. We eat cake & food, we drink tea, theres workshops & meditation ... and we TALK! We SHARE! The women who give me their hands tell me everything, their joy, their pain & the difference we make to their lives, just by listening to them.
I use this time to speak to the women who come to us & find out what 'I' can do to make 'their' lives better, and they never hesitate to tell me what they want! And I love that.
We celebrate women every day at flowstate - but each year international womens day henna lights my soul & reminds me of the importance of community, & why I will always endeavour to serve women in this powerful way <3
