As we conclude Autumn and with Halloween just passed, we hosted our Autumn and Halloween Wooden Craft Workshop at the WHISC last week. This workshop offered a welcoming space to relax, create, and connect with others while enjoying hands-on activities such as painting wooden decals and making jewellery, magnets, badges, and more.
Why Crafting Matters
Crafting isn’t just about making something beautiful; it’s also about slowing down, connecting with your creativity, and enjoying the process.
Working with wooden materials has a naturally grounding effect. The tactile feel of the wood, the earthy tones, and the smell of paint all engage the senses, helping you stay present and mindful. This focus on the hands-on process can reduce stress, calm anxious thoughts, and promote relaxation, much like meditation or mindfulness practice.
The Session
Once we had our wooden bases, we started sketching and painting, letting our ideas take shape. The atmosphere was calm and friendly; everyone was focused yet chatting and sharing inspiration. Some people went for spooky Halloween themes, while others chose warm, earthy designs inspired by nature
The social aspect of the workshop adds another layer of wellness. Sharing the creative space with others, exchanging ideas, and seeing everyone’s unique designs creates a sense of community and belonging. This can help reduce feelings of isolation and encourage connection. Something that we all need, especially during these cold and darker months.
Looking Ahead

Everyone is welcome!
