Creativity, Connection & Community: Join Us for a Tote Bag Decorating Workshop at RASA

Sometimes, the simplest activities can create the most meaningful moments of connection.

We're delighted to be bringing a series of free, community-focused creative workshops to RASA Merseyside, inviting service users and caregivers to take some time out, get creative and enjoy the simple pleasure of making something of their own.

Our relaxed tote bag decorating workshops are all about creativity, self-expression and connection. Whether you're naturally artistic or haven't picked up a paintbrush in years, everyone is welcome. There is no experience needed, no pressure to create something perfect and absolutely no right or wrong way to get involved.

A little creativity, a little calm

Creative activities offer an opportunity to slow down, step away from everyday pressures and become absorbed in something enjoyable.

Choosing colours, experimenting with patterns, painting little illustrations or writing an uplifting affirmation can provide a gentle focus for the mind. It's an opportunity to be present in the moment, explore creativity at your own pace and enjoy a little time for yourself.

For survivors and those navigating difficult experiences, having access to informal, welcoming spaces where there is no expectation to talk, explain or share anything personal can be particularly valuable.

Sometimes it's simply about sitting around a table, enjoying a cup of tea, sharing a laugh and creating something together.

Making something to be proud of

Each participant will have the opportunity to design and decorate their very own reusable cotton tote bag.

With paints, fabric pens affirmation stencils and all creative materials provided, there will be plenty of opportunity to experiment and make something completely individual. From colourful flowers and playful patterns to little illustrations, meaningful words and positive affirmations, every bag will be different.

And the best part? You'll leave with something tangible that you've created yourself.

There is something special about taking home a finished piece of work, knowing that it started as a blank canvas and became something uniquely yours.

Having something practical that you can continue to use, whether for shopping, carrying your everyday essentials or simply as a reminder of a lovely afternoon or evening, can help nurture a sense of achievement, confidence and pride.

It's not about how artistic you are or how your finished bag compares to anyone else's. It's about enjoying the process and recognising what you're capable of creating.

Stronger together: The importance of community

At the heart of these workshops is something just as important as the creativity itself: connection.

Bringing people together in an informal group setting creates opportunities to meet others, share ideas, encourage one another and enjoy a sense of belonging.

For survivors, finding spaces where they feel comfortable, welcomed and included can be an important part of rebuilding confidence and reconnecting with others. Having the opportunity to participate alongside people with shared experiences, without any pressure to disclose or discuss personal circumstances, can help reduce feelings of isolation.

There is strength in community. Small moments of encouragement, shared laughter, conversation and simply being alongside one another can help create meaningful connections.

We also warmly welcome caregivers, recognising the importance of creating opportunities for those who support others to enjoy some time for themselves, explore their own creativity and feel part of a supportive community.

A workshop for all ages

These workshops are designed to be accessible, relaxed and enjoyable for everyone, whatever their age or creative ability.

Whether you want to paint something colourful, create a simple design, add an uplifting affirmation or just see where your imagination takes you, there will be plenty of inspiration and materials to get started.

All materials are provided, including reusable tote bags, paints and pens, so you can simply turn up and enjoy the experience.
