World Mental Health day: Henna

Henna has a beautiful way of opening up conversations about mental health. As a centuries-old art form, it goes beyond being just decorative; it carries a soothing and healing essence that touches the spirit. When we gather for henna workshops, something magical happens. We offered free henna at WHISC as part of their world mental health day celebrations, aiming to support & open up talks around mental health. I thought henna was the perfect accompaniment to world mental health day as the slow, rhythmic process of applying henna becomes a meditative practice, allowing participants to relax, quiet their minds, and be present in the moment as people sit together the space naturally encourages open conversation. The gentle act of applying henna gives people space to open up & can lead to deep and meaningful discussions about mental health, stress, and emotional well-being. It creates a safe environment where it feels easier to share personal experiences and struggles, knowing others are listening with compassion & it gives people something beautiful that connects us all.

Henna’s calming effect allows us to connect with ourselves and others, serving as a bridge to opening up about mental health in a non-judgmental and creative way.

At Flowstate, we see firsthand how the simple act of creating with henna can be a powerful catalyst for emotional release, conversation, and healing. It’s a reminder that artistic expression can be a pathway to mental well-being, and when we come together in these spaces, we’re not just creating beautiful designs – we’re nurturing our mental and emotional health, one meaningful connection at a time.
