Free Summer Suncatcher Workshop @May Logan Health Centre, Bootle

The summer holidays can be one of the most expensive times of year for families. Finding activities that are engaging, suitable for different ages and completely free isn't always easy—especially in communities where access to affordable family events can be limited.

That's why we loved bringing our Free Suncatcher Workshop to May Logan Health Centre in Bootle.

From babies and toddlers to older children, parents and grandparents, the session welcomed families to slow down, get creative and spend quality time together in a relaxed, friendly environment.

The room quickly filled with colourful rainbows, butterflies, flowers and smiling faces as everyone designed their own unique sun catchers to take home.

Creativity that brings people together

I'm a huge believer in creative community - everyone deserves access to creative spaces & self care. Being a parent, and especially a mother in this day and age can be incredibly isolating, many face burn out & express lack of community, so workshops like this where they can meet like minded mums sharing similar experiences & also entertain the kids feel invaluable. Creative activities offer so much more than just making something pretty.

For many families, attending a community workshop is an opportunity to leave the house, meet new people and feel connected. Parents chatted while children proudly showed off their creations, friendships began to form, and families who may never have met otherwise shared an enjoyable afternoon together.

These small moments help reduce social isolation and strengthen the local community—something that is especially valuable during the long summer holidays.

A space for every age

One of the best parts of the workshop was seeing every generation get involved.

For babies and younger children, the bright colours, shiny materials and different textures created a wonderful sensory experience. Watching the light catch the finished suncatchers fascinated little ones and encouraged curiosity through play.

Older children & adults enjoyed taking their time with more detailed designs, experimenting with colours, patterns and glitter to make something completely personal.

Parents & grandparents got a chance to join in too, turning the workshop into quality family time rather than simply supervising an activity. A few showed us their at home self care creative projects which I love! Everyone should be able to access joy,

Everyone could create at their own pace and leave feeling proud of what they had made.

Building confidence through creativity

There is something special about making something with your own hands.

Each participant left with a beautiful babysafe handmade suncatcher ready to brighten a bedroom window or favourite spot at home. Watching children hold up their finished artwork with huge smiles reminded us how important creative experiences are for building confidence, self-expression and a genuine sense of achievement.

There were no right or wrong designs—just imagination, colour and creativity.

Free activities matter

In areas where families may be facing financial pressures, free creative opportunities can make a real difference.

With the rising cost of living, many parents simply can't afford regular paid activities during the school holidays.

By providing all materials free of charge, families could enjoy a high-quality workshop without worrying about cost. Everyone had access to the same colourful supplies, ribbons, glitter and designs, making the experience inclusive and accessible for all.

We also love sharing crafts that can easily be recreated at home using affordable materials, giving families ideas for simple creative activities they can continue together long after the workshop has ended.
