Tote Bag Decorating Workshop

Last week at WHISC (Women’s Health Information & Support Centre), we gathered for a tote bag decorating workshop that was as uplifting as it was creative. With stencils, fabric paints, and iron-on decals at hand, participants transformed simple canvas tote bags into unique, expressive pieces of art.

The session was filled with colour, laughter, and connection. Each bag told its own story – some bold and bright, others soft and intricate – reflecting the individuality of the women who created them. For many, it was not just about making something practical and beautiful, but about taking time for themselves, slowing down, and enjoying the process of creativity without pressure.

Workshops like this go beyond the paint and fabric. They provide a chance to step away from daily stresses, engage in hands-on creativity, and share the joy of making something in a supportive environment. For the women at WHISC, it was a reminder of the power of community: sitting together, chatting, and celebrating each other’s ideas.

Creative sessions have been shown to boost morale, support wellbeing, and build confidence. In a world that often feels rushed and heavy, gathering around a table with paints and brushes brings lightness, connection, and a sense of belonging. Each decorated tote bag was more than just a craft project – it was a symbol of empowerment, self-expression, and the joy of creating together.

We left with not only beautifully decorated bags but also with renewed energy, smiles, and a reminder that community creativity has the power to lift spirits and strengthen bonds.
