Celebrating Sisterhood: International Women’s Day with Savera UK

This International Women’s Day, we had the honour of being part of a deeply meaningful and vibrant celebration hosted by Savera UK at the Tiber Building on Lodge Lane.

The space came alive with the energy of women coming together — a beautiful blend of music, dance, conversation, and creativity. There was a real sense of connection in the room; a shared understanding of resilience, joy, and the power of community.

We were delighted to volunteer our services for the day, offering free henna to attendees. Each design became more than just adornment — it was a moment of pause, of expression, and of care. Sitting with each woman, hearing stories, sharing smiles, and creating something meaningful together felt incredibly special. Henna has always been a symbol of celebration, and it was an honour to bring that tradition into a space that centred and uplifted women.

Savera UK’s work is vital. They support Black, Asian, and minority ethnic women and children who are at risk of or experiencing harmful practices such as honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation. Beyond crisis support, they also create safe spaces, raise awareness, and empower women to live freely and without fear.

Events like this are so important because they go beyond awareness — they create community. They offer moments of joy and connection that are often missing for those who have experienced isolation or trauma. They remind women that they are not alone, that their voices matter, and that there is strength in coming together.

International Women’s Day is not just about celebration — it’s about visibility, solidarity, and continued action. Being part of this event was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do: to create spaces where women feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

We’re incredibly grateful to Savera UK for inviting us to be part of such a special day, and to every woman who sat with us, shared a moment, and allowed us to be part of her story.

Here’s to more spaces like this — rooted in connection, creativity, and collective empowerment.
