Celebrating International Women's Day

Wow! 💫 I can't even keep track of how much henna we did for this International Women's Day! From hosting workshops at women's refuges to offering free sessions in preparation for Ramadan at asylum link communities, our goal was to connect with women from diverse backgrounds, offering more than just a decorative art form but a moment of solace and connection.

Our journey began with workshops held at women's refuges - houses serving as havens for those seeking safety and support. Amidst shared stories and laughter, the intricate patterns of henna became a form of self-expression and empowerment, reminding us that beauty can blossom from unexpected places and that strength thrives in solidarity.

Expanding beyond traditional workshop settings, we reached out to asylum link communities, where preparations for Ramadan were underway. By providing free henna sessions, we aimed to infuse joy and cultural celebration into the lives of women navigating new beginnings in unfamiliar environments. Through the universal language of henna, barriers dissolved, and bonds were made, transcending differences in background or circumstance.

But our celebrations didn't end on International Women's Day itself, we helped at a vibrant event attracting women from all walks of life to do a homage litany for Artist Hannah O'shea where women met & chanted the names of creative women. Amidst the bustling activity free henna adorned the hands of attendees, each design reflecting individuality and shared sisterhood. It was a day of celebration, reflection, and renewal—a testament to the resilience and strength of women worldwide.

As the week came to a close, we organized one final event—a pop-up henna session and fundraiser in collaboration with @offpeak.la to raise money for a womens charity in liverpool <3

Here, the art of henna served a dual purpose: not only as a form of creative expression but also as a catalyst for meaningful change. Through their support, participants contributed to initiatives dedicated to empowering women and fostering more inclusive communities.
