Whilst we make the effort to ground ourselves through yoga sessions and meditation, life often gets in the way leading us to often forget about ensuring our seven Chakras’ are well looked after.
To help in this busy period of time, here is a list of ways you can tap into your Chakras’ that are low-effort but just as effective.
BUT FIRST...what are Chakras?
To those new to the subject, or who need a refresher the seven Chakras are different energy points within your body and usually represent a different aspect to life and are associated with different colours as well.
Like anything, having a balance between the Chakras is important but they can often be affected by internal and external forces, even something as minor as having a bad sleeping pattern!
Therefore, tapping into your Chakras’ can allow the energy between the various points to flow freely and harmoniously as they work alongside the mind, body and soul.
Root Chakra
The root Chakra is located at the bottom of your tailbone, and is often associated with the colour red and the Earth element.
The Root Chakra is associated with stability and security and when unblocked you may feel more grounded, balanced and like you have a purpose.
However, when blocked you might feel lethargic, distracted from your tasks and you might even feel stuck, anxious and fatigued.
The first easy way to unblock your root chakra is by connecting with nature.
This can be as simple as implementing a walk into your routine, as the summer kicks in walking to and from places if possible even if it’s just the shop, work or around your neighbourhood.
Taking in the fresh breezy warm air, taking the time to listen to the trees rustling and feeling the earth on your feet can be a step closer to grounding your Root Chakra.
Another way is incorporating clove and marjoram into your diet.
These spices often believed to have grounding properties and are quite versatile in the dishes they can be used in.
Marjoram often pairs well with Mediterranean dishes whilst cloves can be used in curries, rice dishes and even hot drinks.
Sacral Chakra
The Sacral Chakra is located between the tailbone and the bellybutton and is often associated with the colour orange.
The Sacral Chakra represents sensuality and creativity and is related to the pleasure and enjoyment of life.
When the Sacral Chakra is open you might feel motivated to create stuff and express your creativity, intense emotions (the good and bad kind), and feel more passionate in day to day life.
However, when closed you might feel a lack of motivation, difficulty expressing emotions and detached within your personal relationships.
One way to help balance your Sacral Chakra is engaging in activities that connect you with your emotional and creative side, in busier times this can be as simple as dancing around your room or out with friends.
If you are able to set some time aside this could be journaling before bed or even painting and drawing etc.
The Solar Plexus Chakra.
The solar plexus chakra is located around the stomach area, and is associated with the colour yellow and the fire element.
The Solar Plexus can be responsible for a huge part of our confidence, sense of being and self-assurance.
When open, you might feel assertive, disciplined and that you have a good amount of willpower.
However, when closed you might experience more low-self esteem than usual, you might get irritated easier and in some cases have difficulty setting boundaries.
In busier times, you can use affirmations to help build up your confidence, say it in your head on the way to work, when you’re getting ready in the mornings or even just before bed.
Additionally, with things like being irritated easily, finding time to meditate or something to concentrate on can help to bring you back to the ground- when I was younger I used to paint my nails to soothe my anger!
The Heart Chakra.
The Heart Chakra, (quite self explanatory) is located in the centre of your chest, it is associated with the colour green and the air element.
The Heart Chakra is sometimes referred to as the love chakra due to its responsibilities on our deep emotions such as love, compassion and inner peace.
When open you will find it easy to give and receive love, you might feel content and also be empathetic to the world around you.
On the other hand when closed, you might feel unforgiving to yourself and others, unable to open up and connect to those around you, whilst often feeling angry and bitter.
Opening your heart chakra can sometimes take longer than the other chakras in your body as it can come with a lot of unlearning actions and responses you picked up whilst dealing with life, so be patient with yourself.
However, small steps such as self- love affirmations and aiming to install a positive outlook in day to day life can massively help. Being kind to yourself will project kindness onto others.
The Throat Chakra.
Again, quite straight-forward the Throat Chakra is located at the pit of the throat, is associated with the colour blue and the element of space.
The Throat Chakra often acts as a gateway to expression, authenticity and communication.
When opened we’re able to express ourselves freely through communication, we communicate well with others and embrace our uniqueness verbally.
Although, when closed you might feel disengaged to the rest of the world or those around you, fear of judgement and finding it hard to give and receive criticism, you might even find yourself pushing down thoughts and feelings that should be ‘easy’ to express.
Again, this often takes time and can be done building up confidence to speak up, in day to day life take the small steps to be more expressive around friends or co-workers- it could be as small as voicing your opinion on what you had for lunch, a bar you went to last week or a dress you saw on your way to wherever (good or bad!).
Additionally, before bed grab a journal and write your thoughts down, for some people it helps to write it down before saying it out loud- nothing is ever too silly to put into your diary either.
The Third Eye Chakra.
The third eye chakra is located between your eyebrows, is associated with the colour indigo and also lightness.
The Third Eye reflects our clarity, intuition and overall spiritual insight.
When open you might feel naturally more alert and concentrated, you might feel more self-aware and connected with your emotions helping you to be stress free as well as insightful.
However, when closed you might find yourself being indecisive, unsure what direction to go within life and struggle to manage your emotions.
On the go, things like connecting with nature and being exposed to natural light can help to bring energy and restore the third eye. Walk down the tree-lined street on the way to the shop or take a detour past or through the park on the way back from work and take all the natural surroundings in.
Additionally, if you’re on a bus or a train, taking two minutes of that journey to visualise your thoughts and feelings and aim to connect with a higher form of consciousness can help overtime to open up the Third Eye.
The Crown Chakra.
Finally, the Crown Chakra is located on the top of your head and is associated with purple and consciousness.
The Crown Chakra, similar to the third eye, helps us to form a connection with a higher version of ourselves and often allows us to attain a more positive outlook on life.
When opened, you may feel a greater sense of purpose, more accepting of the way life goes as well as increased empathy and compassion for the world we live in.
However, when closed you might often have a negative perception of most things, become easily worked up over things out of your control and in extreme cases depressed.
Again, much like the third eye, reconnecting with nature and actively grounding yourself can be highly beneficial to the crown chakra. Additionally, around the home using sandalwood or lotus incense/ essential oils can help ‘activate’ the crown chakra.
