Mindful Mehendi : Learn to do your own henna with Abi

The benefits of henna are endless! The reason I bang on so much about it as an easily accessible art form is because: 1. I practice it first hand & it is my go to form of active meditation when the world seems too loud & chaotic! 2. It is very easy to pick up, the courses I designed help to guide you to creating your own mehendi designs, but also how to trace existing ones & use stencils - so even if you're not feeling your most creative, you can still create something beautiful! 3. It is cost effective! Many hobbies need lots of equipment or 'bits' - with henna you just need some henna cones which are affordable & easy to purchase online & some paper or your own body parts! 4. Henna is SOOOOO soothing for the body & mind! It stills the body & the mind follows. you truly enter the flowstate and are able to relax, and, you get something beautiful at the end of it!

We deliver FREE monthly workshops across charities in Liverpool & have links to Sunflowers, Whisc, Ldas, Rasa & Asylum link - but if you'd like us to come to you or your charity or event, we can make arrangements for that to happen Further benefits of henna include :

  1. Mindful Focus: The process of applying henna requires meticulous attention to detail. From preparing the henna paste to intricately designing patterns on the skin, each step demands focused concentration. This mindful engagement allows practitioners to immerse themselves fully in the present moment, letting go of worries and distractions.

  2. Rhythmic Repetition: Many henna designs feature repetitive motifs and patterns, such as floral motifs, geometric shapes, or intricate swirls. The rhythmic repetition of these elements induces a state of flow, where the mind becomes deeply absorbed in the creative process. This rhythmic flow can be immensely soothing, akin to the repetitive movements observed in traditional meditative practices.

  3. Connection to Tradition: Henna application is often steeped in cultural and traditional significance. Across various cultures, henna is used to commemorate special occasions such as weddings, festivals, and religious celebrations. Engaging in this ancient practice fosters a sense of connection to one's roots and heritage, grounding individuals in a broader cultural context and providing a sense of belonging and continuity.

  4. Therapeutic Benefits: Beyond its aesthetic appeal, henna is believed to possess therapeutic properties. Traditionally, henna paste is made from natural ingredients like henna powder, lemon juice, and essential oils, which are known for their cooling and soothing effects on the skin. The act of applying henna can thus be a form of self-care, promoting relaxation and rejuvenation.

  5. Artistic Expression: Henna artistry is a form of self-expression, allowing individuals to unleash their creativity and imagination. Whether drawing inspiration from traditional designs or experimenting with contemporary motifs, the act of creating unique henna patterns fosters a sense of personal empowerment and fulfillment.
